Uppsala Reggae Festival 2008

It's been going on for two days already. Already on Thursday I read on the teletext about a bounce of kids being arrested for illegal substance on the camp area. I'm glad I'm not there. I've been on this festival for three years, and I think I'll leave it to that, at least for now. I'm really dedicated to reggae music, but it's my firm belief that (many) west Europeans has lost touch with the music. Those have instead started developing an adamant substance abuse. They start out as hash dopers, a multitude from where let's say four out of five will come to shoot (at least) speed in a indefinite future (acouple of years?). Why does this phenomenon of step progress (at least from what it appears) seem to be less common among those musicans on the Carribean islands? Well, it's probably because they do not live under the same stressfull environment like we do. This could be taken apart piece by piece down to the bare bone of infrastructure, but I choose not to. So, anyways, these rhythm-loving musicans have the time to sit in their hammock, puffing their magic dragon, while wondering about things such as how a dog/pig breed would look like, of course laughing while sitting there. On the opposite, us (i.e. Swedes) find the public demands frustrating and try to balance it up by tweaking our minds all roasted. An evil circle of pain, and eventually even the laughter stops. During my rough boot camp period up-north — where substance abuse is statistically widespread — I came to witness this misery with my own eyes, so I sure know what I'm talking about. Poor bastards, may the Holy Spirit guide them. Man, we not Jamaicans. Anyways, I really hope that [those who are there for the right reason] is having a wonderful festival time, enjoying the best that reggae culture has to give.
