Movie: "Screamers" (1995)

Wow!

I've really taken this whole sci/fi genre to my heart. I seem to have missed out on so many good movies. Like this one for example. Can't even recall ever having seen it. It was really exciting all the way through.

Due to fossil fuels running out on Earth, the big corporations has started digging out a new substance. Of course, we're talking high grade nuclear. So, what neither the scientists nor the harvesting companies had thought about, was the leakage of radioactive substances, causing great suffer to man kind.

So, when the major mining company (N.E.B) doesn't take the deadly leakage as enough argument to stop mining, a war brakes out between the allied parties (The Alliance) and the N.E.B. Each part has it's own base camp, where they're hiding in bunkers. On the Alliance behalf, we have lieutenant Joseph Hendrickssen (Peter Weller) in command.

So, after not having heard a word over the radio for weeks, when all of a sudden a N.E.B. soldier is seen strolling through the desert, apparently with good intentions, carrying a strange message beholder, liet. Joe is getting curious. When suddenly a bounce of screamers chop the same stranger up into pieces just a hundred yards from the Alliance bunker, it gets even weirder. Joe decides to travel over to the N.E.B. base, just to see if they really realking cease-fire for reals.

Like this wasn't enough, a little side-project that was created to help the Alliance in the war seems to have blown out of their hands. The small machines are called "screamers". They are basically just a CPU which runs on renewable fuels such as tissue from dead animals.

These little naggers seems to have come up with self-preservation instincts. So, now they've come up with a way to reproduce themselves independently. And beware - these little rackets strike from below ground level, each one armed with a lethal blade of destruction.

Awsome sci/fi action all the way through. The end was also superb. Rumors has it that a sequel is planned till 2009, it will be a blessing. Oh gosh, I can barely wait! This is a must see sci/fi movie.
