Movie: "El Maquinist" (2004)

Probably more known over it's English title "The Machinist". It was disgusting to see Christian Bale so thin, even knowing it was probably 90% the work of computer retouching.

However, the film was okey. It felt a bit slow somewhere in the middle. I was like "C'mon, seen lots of these paranoid-guy-freaks-out flicks, now give this one meaning, or it won't pass!". So, just before the end the pieces fell into place, just as always. Not bad at all. How to summarize it without spoiling too much? Well, let's say that it's all about Reznik's conscience. Storyline? Trevor Reznik works shift on a machine factory. He hasn't slept for over a year. The "why?" is the obvious tag question that will hold you till the end.

Footnote:
Oh my gosh, I now read that Bale actually did(!) lose all that weight before the shooting. Yaack!!

"Christian Bale starved himself for over 4 months prior to filming, as his character needed to look drastically thin. Allegedly his eating consisted of one cup of coffee and an apple each day (approximately 275 calories)[2]. According to the DVD commentary, he lost 62 pounds (28 kg), reducing his body weight to 120 pounds (54.4 kg). Bale wanted to go down to 100 pounds (45.3 kg) but the filmmakers would not let him due to health concerns."
