Movie: "American Crime" (2007)

This is based on the true story about the terrible assualt taking place in a southern state basement back in the 60's.

Starring Ellen Page (Hard Candy, Juno) as Sylvia, a fifteen year old girl whose parents are carnival workers. Her parents have this big tour on it's way, not knowing where to put Sylvia and her younger sister. By pure coincidence, their father meets Gertrude in the baptist church. Quickly, how strange it may seem, they decide that Sylvia and Jeannie will stay the period till autumn in Gertrude's care, a woman who already has six kids or her own. Now, this may seem like the idealistic summer camp. Well, think again. Gertrude's second oldest child (who is in Sylvia's age) is having those typical boys' issues. However, it's obvious that Gertrude is a bit unsatisifed with how life turned out for herself, and will never accept the bare idea of her own child along her footsteps. Nah, someone is need to take the blame for all this. Who is it going to be? Ooooh, Sylvia's been a naughty girl, she's to be punished for all this woe coming into the Baniszewski family's house. After all, it all started when those two spoiled little brats came along, didn't it? Things will pretty soon escalate, and things will get real nasty. I must say I found some of the scenes quite repulsive myself, and I noticed how my fiancé was half-way covering her eyesight in her hands - understandable.

However, this was actually a really great movie. You should all go see it. The fact that it's based on a true story makes the scenes feel more real. However, no risk of falling asleep during this film. Go see it!

Footnote
It's pretty unbelievable how an authoritarian voice could cause such a mass psychosis (best term I can think of). Sort of like that school experiement 'The Wave' a teacher performed (also this back in the 60's) with purpose to show how simple it actually was for a man like Adolf Hitler to get into people's minds; and eventually get elected.
