Movie: "Big Trouble in Little China" (1986)

Hehe, this is a real classic, I know. Can't recall ever having seen it though. So, now I have. Well, not 'cuz it's my genre of choice, but it had it's moments. It falls under the same category as the 'From Dusk Till Dawn' movies, with the same blach humour.

Here are "The Three Storms" (Lightning, Thunder and Rain). Also, now I know where Midway took inspiration for the characters in their popular fighting video game Mortal Kombat. Yes, I especially think of Raiden. It should be said that the film offers a funny feeling, so don't despair in the loss of significance.

The story?

Jack (Kurt Russel) is a truck driver. It all starts with him sitting down with his Chinese friend Wang for the usual friendly manner hazard game while Jack is having his break. Jack wins some money. However, Wong doesn't have it on him, so he cannot collect. So, Jack decides to follow Wong to get the money. He is just going to get a female friend slash crush at the air port. What neither Jack or Wang had expected is that some Chinese tribe members will show up at the airport, taking Wang's new crush as hostage. So, as Jack is a true American gentleman, he's more than happy to assist Wang in his attempt to rescue this girl. Also, he himself has laid eyes on another beautiful girl (Kim Cattrall). So they went on their big mission, not really knowing what's expecting them.

- Down. Lo Pan is down there.
- Down where?

- Where is the universe?

As you may understand this is going to get really wicked. Chinese black sorcery and other stuff will make Dirty Harry with his .44 Magnum stand helpless. This is something beyond reason, something that requires help from the outside. Here is where the local tour bus driver Egg Chen (Victor Wong) comes into play. It's all a force between the good and the bad forces of nature. I could drop some more details on the forces involved in the synopsis, but it would be a waste of time. There's an ancient god who is cursed with immortal life. The only way this spell could be broken is through the blood of a green-eyed woman. Of course, both Gracie Law and Miao Yin has green eyes. Life's a bitch, huh?!

- Time for the medicine!
- Cheers!
- This does what again, exactly?

- Huge buzz.

Guess this is one of these movies you have to see before you're history, so I'd rather do it now than at the age of forty. But again, not suitable for all people. Some people (who doesn't count the cult factor in at all) will probably think this is just 1h 40m of drivel. Anyways, give it a try the next time you're on the mood for a goodie!
