Movie: "The Ice Storm" (1997)

Honestly, when getting to the "key party scenes", I recalled having seen it somewhere before, maybe on television or something. However, a cute family drama. The shooting environment (the 70's) was pretty good. It was also fun to see [today older; plus widely known for other characters] actors like Tobey Maguire, Elijah Wood, and Christina Ricci being not older than in their younger teenage years. Also, I'm the worst case when it comes to not recognizing famous actors from other parts. However, I did(!) catch on to Sigourney Weaver's face, although she had much shorter hair in Alien.

The movie? Well, it's like a long episode of Desperate Housewives, to be critical. However, it's entertaining all the way. The story circles around two families living the usual 70's suburbian life. Well, not that I know what's really typical, but at least it felt pretty modern and accurate all the way through.

So, Pauly (Tobey Maguire) is on a boarding school where he lives sort of the usual teenage life, besides slipping away from reality into comic books, and such. He's longing for his first sexual experience, something that his best friend Francis keeps withholding him (by always being one step ahead on every chick that Pauly lay eyes on).

Pauly's younger sister Wendy (Ricci) is also longing for her first sexual experience. She's been making out with Mikey (Wood) a few times, but the final step seems far away, with them taking turns on being the one filled with hesitation. Mikeys younger brother Sandy is a real messy kid. He has a thing for dynamite, so he likes the smell of blown of model airplanes and suchlike.

The thing is, that Pauly/Wendy's and Mikey/Sandy's parents havn't really got their hands clean. Let's say that unfaithfulness is playing a huge part in this film. The final moral point is a bit vague, but I think what it's trying to say is that one should be happy with what he holds, 'cuz he never knows when he'll loose it all.

Really not such a bad film.
Nice relationship drama.
