Movie: "Snow Cake" (2006)

Wow!

Here's a really great drama. Truly amazing. Some would probably call the film old-maidish or even something more condescending, but I won't swallow that sort of criticism. Now, first you meet with Alex (Alan Rickman) when he stops at a diner to take a break from his constant driving.

Here he meets with Vivienne (Emily Hampshire), a youthful girl who's looking for a lift. So, after first being hesitant, he finds himself unable to deny helping her. So, the two are soon back on the road. Unfortunately, an accident strikes upon them. So, very soon Alex will be alone, first he even feels guilt. However, he can't carry on without talking to the girl's parents. So, he pokes around till he has got her adress, and then he knocks on the door. What he doesn't know, is that Vivienne only has her mother, and that she is autistic.

However, a strange form of relationship will bound Alex and Linda (Sigourney Weaver) together, and they will develope an understanding for eachother. Well, at least in one way. You see, autism is absolute. It's something beyond, something you cannot change. You just have to accept every part of the autistic person, or you're lost.

"What is the moment worth?
The past is only a memory, the future a fantasy.
It's only in the present that we truly live."

Amazing film. Anyone who's looking for a great drama movie, the next time you should pick this one. It's outstanding. Sigourney Weaver does a great work on playing the autistic part, a task which cannot be very easy, not for anyone.

7/10 (a strong one)
