Movie: "Deuces Wild" (2002)

I've had this one on DVD for a couple of years. Tonight was the second time I saw it, a film that in my opinion is fairly underestimated (only rated 5.x at IMDb). If you like the era setting in take Sleepers and the beginning of Goodfellas, and why not Grease for that matter, then you'll probably like this one. It's the late 50's, the junk has reached Brooklyn, whereas Allie got to be one of it's lethal victims. Allie's older brother Leon (Stphen Dorff) swears that no more smack will be sold on his block. So, he founds "Deuces", a traditional type neighbourhood gang. A bit gambling, selling illegal fireworks, no biggie, but the most important thing: no dope.

The Deuces rival gang is Vipers, lead by Marco (Norman Reedus), who has served three years behind bars 'cuz of the "hot shot" (far beyond lethal dose) that killed Allie. Someone turned him over, and Marco is determined to find the snitch and cut his throat from ear to ear ("Mark of the snitch").

Leon also has another younger brother, Bobby, who's somewhat the typical young and naive fellow. Anyways, both of the brothers have romance going on. Leon is dating Betsy since indefinite time, and Bobby will soon come to get utterly in love with Annie, who's Jimmy's younger sister. Jimmy? Well, he's Marco's left hand.

As the tip of the iceberg we have Fritzy (Matt Dillon), who's the real boss around the neighbourhood. Fritzy is onehundred percent enterprising, so even though he prefers arch-enemies Leon and Marco to stay of eachother, he's zealous to see how horse will take root on the block.

This is a really relaxing film, filled with enjoyable music from the 50/60's. Definitive worth watching.
