Two more movies!

Alpha Dog (2006)

Really great film, not to mention it's outstanding soundtrack (great music all through the movie). However, during almost two whole hours, we get to follow Johnny (Emile Hirsch), Frankie (Justin Timberlake), and a couple of other puppet dolls, in something starting as an impulsive act (of no judgement), but it - of course - escalates, turning into something I don't think any of the boys had thought about from the beginning. Hmm, alright, I'll take it from the start.

Bad boy Jack owes Johnny some money. He can't pay off. Johnny is a young drug dealer whose least problem is money, really. Anyways, the scene takes place in somewhat of a house party, so Johnny has got to show some attitude. So, when Jack explains that he can't/won't get the money, Johnny becomes, errrhm, aggressive. They part as enemies. However, Johnny's absolutely determined that he will get the money from Jack. So, by a coincedence they catch sight of Jack's younger brother - Zack. This is where Johhny and his friends get the crazy idea of taking Zack as a hostage. Then, call it The Stockholm Syndrome or whatever, but it won't take long before hostage/hostage takers is sharing beers, still holding Zack as captured; officially. Sounds like a comedy? Well, watch for yourself. This was a really great film, which by the way is based on a true story.

Strong 7/10!

1408 (2007)

This is Swedish director Mikael Håfström's ('Derailed') latest film. It had gotten sort of great (7.0/10) ratings over at IMDb, so I had some expectations. Well, they didn't last long. After half an hour of watching I come to the conclusion that this is a typical horror flick for young kids to get spooked around. It has to be taken into consideration that we saw this movie real late, so we could barely stay awake. John Cusack is running around in circles in a hotel room which itself is container filled with evil. Meanwhile stuck in this loop that never seems to end, he can't help drawing parallels to the daughter whom he had lost in cancer. Could he have acted in a different way? Is this Katie calling from the other side? Oh, scary.. Anyways, when there was around half an hour left, I started to get the point of where all this was going. The director was trying to make a necktie; bounding the story to make perfectly sense. Well, I held on to the opinion that this was only a lame cliché. We turned off the television set before the end credits. zZz..

Weak 3/10!
