I got four more movies to tell..

Yeah, that's right, having summer vacation and all, means lots of spare time. So, last couple of 36 hours we've seen four(!) different movies (although I watched 'CB4' myself, while she were asleep). Here's the short summary plus personal opinion.

First of is 'Michael Clayton', directed by Tony Elroy, with production assistance from (among others) Sidney Pollack and Steven Soderbergh. The film was more than two hours long, which somewhere reaching in upon the middle seemed like pretty long. However, towards the last third it started to get really exciting, plus the bare fact that pieces (like always) were starting to make pretty logical sense. To be honest, after watching only half an hour, I thought to myself "Gah, just go on, get the end credits sometime soon", 'cuz I didn't get that particular feeling of being "hooked". Anyways, it would turn to the better.

The story to begin with? Michael Clayton (George Clooney) works as an attorney for a really big firm with hundreds of laywers. So, thanks to his old friend Arthur (Tom Wilkinson) he manage to get involved in a huge case that has been opened for six years, involving a huge company in one end, and a handfull of ordinary human beings (landowners) in the other (think 'Erin Brockovich' and you'll have a good clue). How does he get involved? Well, not to spoil the plot but let's say that (being one of the firm's best lawyers, for that matter) Arthur has a little state of mind issue. Then put the real creepy "janitors" slash "cleaners" up against the "ordinary" law-bending attorneys. Add car bombs and millions of dollars, and you'll find out that people will do just about(!) anything for the cause of green.

The second movie was 'CB4', a classic (1993) hiphop comedy about a fictional group of emcees calling themselves "Cell Block 4".

A couple of - rather shocking - coincidences, such as the local thug gangster Gusto being sent do jail, leaving his legendary(?) name as a landmark; a perfect target for a couple of emcee-wannabe kids to steal, thus giving them cause for some public attention. Wow, starting to get hot, huh? Well, it won't take long before CB4 is on everyone's lips and their first hit "Sweat on my Balls" is heard constantly on the radio. So, when (the real) Gusto is hearing about all this from his cell block, he gets.. let's say upset! :-) This was really fun. 7/10. Can't help myself from wondering if my approach on a few things would be difficult if I had seen this film around 1998. I will never know for sure..

So, I'm stuck on the case of not having seen 'Minority Report' until now. It was the best film I've seen in quite some time now. Not surprisingly IMDb user voting is up at 7.7/10 (over >101,000 vts). Directed by Steven Spielberg himself, after the novel by famous sci/fi writer Philip. K. Dick.

The story takes place in year 2054. People has stopped committing murders, since a new system called "Precrime" has been taken in use in Washington. There are three persons, who due to truly-not-an-act-of-God has gotten the ability/curse(?) to see into the future. Well, mostly horrifying things then, such as murders(!). These persons are kept inside a weird-looking water pool in "The Temple", where they lay 24/7 with wires connected to their heads. Special units has been formed to "be there before the perpetrator hits". This way, not one single murder has been reported in Washington DC for the last couple of six years (since the start of Precrime). So, a perfect world huh? Don't be so sure about that. When system seems to fail, does it really fail or is it just opening up a few hatches to things that people deserve to know? You should see this movie. The filming environment is marvelous, also bearing in mind that this movie is six years old (again, why the heck havn't I seen it before??).

Last out was 'Startdust', a quite new film, which title I always seem to mix up with 'Sunshine', a sci/fi flick I havn't even seen yet.

IMDb votes up at 8/10 made this an interesting film. My fiancé had already seen it (and gave her thumbs up), so I took the opportunity of watching it while she was at her parent's place over a couple of hours. So, what did I think? When I felt what the story was going to be like, I actually didn't know what to think. Could be that I was not prepared of another two hours of prediction (since we had seen the ~2h15m Minority Report just an hour earlier). Anyways, the story was "nice", the way these romantic sagas are supposed to be. Anyways, after seing Minority Report (with a plot that could just aswell have turned reality in forty years or so) this one felt just a bit too much of a saga. Magical or not. Anyways, great for the kids. 7/10, because the sack was tied together in the best possible way.
