Movie: "Next" (2007)

a fo
Really not that bad, even though I wouldn't call it a class A movie. It's based upon a story by famous sci/fi writer Philip K. Dick (whose novels has become big movies such as Blade Runner, Total Recall, Paycheck). However, After Total Recall I havn't seen much of clean cuts on his novels. I do not blaspheme his work, nah, I think it's brilliant, all I say is I think the movie productions could be so much more.

Here we meet Chris Johnson (Nicholas Cage), a man with the incredible ability to foreseeing. Well, at least he can see twop minutes into the future. That's just about his limit. The thing is that you can't take a glance on the future without changing a bit, so you'd have to be careful. Everything has been quite calm in Chris life. He has this little on-the-road show under the artist name Frank Cadillac. On his sparetime he sometimes visits the casino to collect, not a fortune, but just so that he gets by.

Everything changes the day he sees Liz (Jessica Biel). He notices that the bare thought upon her pushes him to foresee more than his usual two minutes. Very strange. He needs to get in touch with her again.

In the meantime, a group of terrorists has laid their hands on a deadly nuclear weapon that will destroy entire L.A. The FBI are powerless. Their last hope is .. of course .. the man with a force that they cannot seem to find in their rational mind to understand .. but what they saw on that casino surveillance tapes was real. So, they need to get Chris Johnson willing to help them, and time's running out.

The mad "chain reactions" up at canyons where pretty impressive. Some of the "Daybreak stuff" got to be a little bit exaggerated, but I didn't loose interest entirely. At least I considered this film better than Paycheck.
